Our 8th graders were given a budget. They were challenged to build towers using the different supplies that they could purchase. The students researched the different types of towers that would work best to withstand an earthquake. After the towers were built, they were then tested on a earthquake simulator. They were timed until the building cracked. The time and their cycles per second were then recorded. The students goal was to have their tower last for at least 20 seconds or up to one minute.
